Out there is a fortune waitin' to be had

Thu Mar 13, 2008, 7:08 PM

A meritat!

Mi s-a părut că a inceput puțin cam greoi.

„Empowering” is the first thing that comes to mind.

I feel so high I can't remember jack :D Totuși știu că au cântat Phoenix - „Sirena”. [trilu']

Mă doare maxilarul. Și coardele vocale. Și am febră musculară. Știi senzația aia I'm-on-top-of-the-world? Asta nu-i aia. O depașește lejer (uite așa ajung la Motorhead - „Over The Top”).

La sfârșit i-a salvat Janis că au băgat Jet - „Are You Gonna Be My Girl?”

Wondering: why I felt like using diacritics, this is rather odd for me.

Happy birthday (1st of June)

Ok, time to catch up.

Timisoara... Got first place, going to Seoul (South Korea) in August, gotta make a few bussiness trips to Bucharest before that, yadda-yadda-yadda.

Devs... Happy B-day!

Oh yeah, and I got a new deviation up (after a big break).

In other news, a few weeks back I used the hack for Canon Digic II cameras on my A710IS. So I got raw, live histogram, auto exposure bracketing, scripting for automating more than one shot and more. Yay!

Ok, so the team I'm part of is into ImagineCup. Next stop: the national (the local and national preselection already took place, but that was easy).

We're still improving our solution and it's better each day (I'm actually working in at-leat-a-new-feature-each-day mode). If I told anyone who is watching me what the solution is, bear in mind there is no need for spoilers. really :D).

I know, I know, I haven't upped anything lately around here, it's because of the lack of time. Anyway, I intend to take a few days off from the job and get out of Cluj after this is over. Plans include: going to places, meeting people, being generally deviant. Yeah, being deviant includes uploads here too, I have at least two really good ideas written down and all they want is attention (a lot of it, but they'll get it).

Also high on the wish list is HAVING A GOOD FRICKIN' GATH! (though a "good 'ol gath" will likely have to wait until everyone's exams are over). And while we're at it, we (AEROStyle) ARE going to the seaside this summer, right? How about trying a few more places? I'm thinking something along the lines of IASI(:!: not one gath there so far!) -> seaside (including Vama) -> Bucharest. Sv can have it's own couple of full-night parties.

Can I get two maybe even three of these

Finally! A dream I remember! Well, ok, I don't remember all of it, but it's a start. So here is the recipe. I had... One big tiger :D And the tiger had (somewhere during the dream) 3 little-tigers :D 2 died before the end of the dream.

Unfortunately I can't remember much :( Oh well, it's good enough :D

Canon A710 IS

Sun Jan 7, 2007, 11:38 PM
Ok, so I got a new camera and I thought I bragged a bit about it and give a little insight about why I chose this model...

Show-stoppers (what it HAD to have):
· 6 MP
· 6x zoom
· IS (Image Stabilization; different manufacturers have different names for this, but it's basically the same thing)
· full manual controls
· macro mode

Megapixels
The reason why I wanted at least 6MP (effective) was so that quality won't be degraded when using multiple filters in Photoshop (e.g. you need extra data when changing the perspective). At the same price range you can get 10 MP cameras like the A640, but I drew the line at 6MP. I didn't care if it had more (and it has, 7.1), it probabily won't be of any real use.

Zoom
Really, 4x should be common sense. 6x is my ego at work. Again, you can get better zoom in the same price range, up to 12x (check out the Panasonic Lumix series).

IS
At 6x zoom, this is a no-brainer. I just have to prevent my hands from moving too much when I shoot (no, IS does not adjust the lens by 30 degrees if your hands shake *that* much).

Macro mode
Sometimes I just wanna playyyyy :D

Full manual controls
This was probably a wise decision (not necesarily in contrast with the above, but anyway...) The thing is I also want to learn how all this works, and this was a must. Note, however, that it won't replace good camera auto settings. Playing with the manual controls takes time, you can loose photo opportunities because of this.

What tagged along with the camera and I liked (these, and the above, made me choose this camera)
· very low color abberation compared to other cameras in it's class. Also low barrel distortion and no vignetting (dark corners)
· very good photo quality and low noise up to ISO 200 (including; ISO 400 is OK)... (You can get low noise up to ISO 800 on some Fuji cameras in this price range) 1
· support for conversion lenses, so you can use additional lenses to filter IR, enhance the zoom or wide view and so on (though I probably won't use this soon) 1
· The camera itself feels solid, unlike those with the body made of plastic (like my previous one). It also has a good grip
· AA batteries. Really, I think it's important I don't depend on the availability of the manufacturer. You can buy AAs anywhere and the 2500mAh ones last longer than proprietary batteries (which have about 1300mAh). They're also cheaper
· AF-assist lamp. Makes autofocus work in low light 1
· Flash intensity is adjustable. This is just sweet 1

Features I may use but don't really care much about:
· Continuous shooting mode. About 1.7 fps, for as much as the memory card can hold
· Movie mode. 640x480, 30 fps. Movie mode seems to use ISO 800 in (very) low light and looks great! I guess there isn't much noise because of the reduced resolution 1

What tagged along and I will probably never use
· "My colors" and other in-camera effects. Please. That's why I have a PC
· Direct camera-printer connection: So i'm supposed to figure out if a photo looks like I want it to on a 2.5'' screen? I don't think so

__________
Bottom line, while this camera is not the best performer in most specifications, I think it was the best overall performer.
